Hollywood Trident Foundation Scholarship Program

The Hollywood Trident Foundation is announcing a scholarship program to the Los Angeles Film School for an 8-week intensive course in filmmaking. The course is open to applicants of Ukrainian heritage who express a strong desire to learn professional filmmaking skills. Students can be at beginner level or experienced professionals who might wish to change their careers. With an emphasis on total immersion in the course, the successful applicant should expect to set aside any other job or program he or she might be enrolled in.

The Los Angeles Film School is a major force in developing present and future filmmakers. Their advisory board includes such major talents as Faye Dunaway, Paul Verhoeven and others and guest speakers include many major talents working in the business today. The school is located in the heart of Hollywood and offers total filmmaking facilities.

With a successful film festival on the films of Alexander Dovzhenko behind it, the Hollywood Trident Foundation looks with great anticipation to continue to promote and present the contribution of the Ukrainian community worldwide to modern civilization in terms of film and the entertainment industry.

The application process began October 22, 2003 and will extend to December 1, 2003 and the final decision will be made by December 10, 2003. Applicants should have a working knowledge of English, both spoken and written and should be ready to devote a full eight weeks to this course.  The scholarship is made available by a generous donation by the LA film school. Incidental costs including travel, housing and day-to-day costs will be covered by the Hollywood Trident Foundation. Applicants can receive an application form by emailing hllwdtrident@sbcglobal.net. APPLICATION FOR TRIDENT SCHOLARSHIP

DETAILS:

A scholarship for the Filmmaking Course at Los Angeles Film School is now available to qualifying students for January, 2004. The course offers the student an intense project-orientated 8-week course of study, offering the opportunity to work on several short films as well as an overview of all facets of professional digital production and post-production techniques. The school is located on Sunset Blvd, in the heart of Hollywood. A full course description is available online at www.lafilm.com under the listing  “1 –Year Immersion Course”. The scholarship is available only for the first term of 8 weeks.

The Trident scholarship, will include cost of course, materials as required by the course, living expenses and accommodation and transportation costs.

Qualifications:

This scholarship is open to any person of Ukrainian descent or nationality. Applicants must have a fluent knowledge of English and a sincere desire for a career in the motion picture industry. They must be at least 18 years old and, if not a U.S. citizen or legal resident, be able to provide proof of a proper visa.

The Application Process

The application form will be completed by the student by submitting the following:

  1. A letter to Hollywood Trident Foundation that includes a brief biography, an intent to work in the film industry, and the reason they feel they would benefit from the course, in no more than two pages.
  1. A list of credits, which should include any professional experience, or lacking those, some indication of an interest in making films, including school courses, projects and other information which would indicate a desire to have a career in motion pictures.
  1. An idea, outline or finished screenplay for a film, either short or feature-length. Also a short film or completed project can be submitted. Any submitted video material should be either on NTSC VHS tape or DVD format. Materials submitted will not be returned.
  1. References from film industry professionals or educational instructors are recommended.  However, students with no experience and/or recommendation will also be considered.
  1. Complete details with name, address, immigration status or citizenship proof are required in the application. Also include a recent photograph.
