Country Director: Search for Common Ground, in coordination with the European Centre for Common Ground, shares the mission of transforming how the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions.  We design and implement multifaceted programs that aim to resolve conflict and prevent violence.   We operate from the premise of understanding the differences and acting on the commonalties.  We are currently seeking a Country Director for our Ukraine project.

The goal of Search for Common Ground in Ukraine (SCG/Ukraine) is to strengthen civil society by building capacity and institutions to deal with conflicts constructively and cooperatively.   Project activities include supporting and expanding a network of trainers and mediators throughout Ukraine;  providing mediation and consulting services;  supporting existing conflict resolution institutions and building new ones; providing conflict resolution skills training and training of trainers;  and awareness-building of conflict resolution as a viable option within Ukraine society at multiple levels.  The Country Director will live in Kiev.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Setting project priorities, plans, and long-term strategy, and managing their implementation within the overall vision and goals of SCG/Ukraine;
  • Overseeing all project activities;
  • Fundraising in cooperation with headquarters in Washington DC and Brussels and ensuring compliance with funders' rules and requirements;
  • Serving as Search for Common Ground's and the European Centre for Common Ground's representative in Ukraine;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with international trainers, partner organizations, funders/donors, clients, key Ukrainian officials, etc.;
  • Providing supervision to project staff;
  • Developing new programs and maintaining continuity between new and existing programs;
  • Maintaining regular reporting to Washington and Brussels;
  • Keeping in touch with the international conflict resolution field to ensure that SCG/Ukraine's work remains innovative and professional.

Qualifications (should include as many of the following as possible):

Significant project management experience; knowledge of conflict resolution theory and practice; knowledge of grant administration, experience with proposal writing and grants management; creative problem solving skills; knowledge of Eastern Europe and current issues; flexibility and a desire to be part of a great team, a must! Proficiency in English and Russian or Ukrainian is essential.
