Ukrainian Studies in Washington DC

A selection of courses being offered under a new Ukrainian program organized by the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies and the Russian and East European Studies Program and directed by Professor PETER REDDAWAY.

The program is able to offer an expanded number of Ukrainian-related courses thanks to a generous grant to the Elliott School from the William and Helen Petrach Foundation, which is administered through IERES by its director, James Millar.

One course in this program, "The Post-Soviet West," is being offered this term. However, three additional courses in the program will be offered in the Spring '99 term. They are:

  • Economy of Ukraine (IAFF 202.17) 3/29-4/30 Wednesdays 4:10-6:00 - Yuriy Yakusha;
  • Politics of Ukraine (IAFF 290.16) Wednesdays 12:00-1:50 - Gene Fishel;
  • History of Ukraine (HIST 297.12) Tuesdays 7:10-9:00 - Martha Chomiak.

Note: GW students can enroll in First Year Ukrainian Language at Georgetown U.

The Ukrainian Program is exploring the possibility of organizing Second Year Ukrainian Language either at GW or at Georgetown.
