Position Announcement for Program Assistant to the US Coordinator, NIS-US Women's Consortium

Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development is seeking a Program Assistant to the US Coordinator for the NIS-US Women's Consortium under the USAID-supported "Prevention of Trafficking of Women in Ukraine" project. The position will be based in Arlington, VA.

The NIS-US Women's Consortium is a membership organization currently composed of over 250 NGOs in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and the US as well as 11 individual advisors. It operates offices in Kyiv, Moscow and Washington DC. The Consortium is dedicated to increasing the capacity of NIS women's NGOs and empowering their leaders to raise women's status and strengthen their participation in the process of democratic transition. The Consortium provides women's leadership training, seed grants to NIS women's NGOs, technical assistance and information dissemination. In 1998 it launched a project to prevent trafficking of Ukrainian women abroad into sexual slavery.

The Program Assistant to the US Coordinator, in coordination with various Winrock offices, will support a functioning office in Arlington, VA. This includes maintenance of files, budget and communication procedures to facilitate the Consortium's trafficking prevention activities.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the US Coordinator and Trafficking Prevention Coordinator with completion of progress reports to USAID/Kyiv;
  • Maintaining databases on the Prevention of Domestic Violence Training Program, the Job Skills Training Program and other Ukraine-based project activities;
  • Translating project documents from Ukrainian into English;
  • Conducting research on prevention of trafficking of women in response to requests from Kyiv Consortium staff;
  • Compiling Consortium outreach materials, such as the newsletter "Consortium Comment;" and
  • Providing technical assistance and information to members and other institutions interested in the women's movement in the West NIS, especially prevention of trafficking of women.

Qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated commitment to women's equality and familiarity with the women's movement in the NIS;
  • Bilingual English/Ukrainian fluency;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interact professionally with Consortium member and donor organizations;
  • Strong organizational, conceptual, and analytical skills;
  • A bachelor's degree and at least 1 year overseas or US-based experience in the non-profit sector in the former Soviet Union; and
  • Basic computer skills, with Microsoft Word preferred.
