The Washington Premiere of the documentary film Bereza Kartuzka (Ukrainian-version), produced and directed by award-winning Montreal filmmaker Yurij Luhovy, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 5:00 pm at the Holy Trinity P.U.C.C. church hall, 16631 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, M.D. Sponsored by The Washington Group and Holy Trinity P.U.C.C. Bereza Kartuzka, tells the story of the infamous Polish concentration camp in which thousands of Ukrainian patriots were imprisoned between 1934 and 1939. Many survivors later settled in America.
The documentary recalls the political situation in Western Ukraine under Polish occupation between the First and Second World Wars.
In the film, former prisoners speak out and many tell their story for the first time. The almost- forgotten, shocking account of Bereza Kartuzka is finally being told.
Proceeds are designated towards the English-language version of Bereza Kartuzka and the production costs of making the documentary.
Filmmaker Yurij Luhovy will be present.
