International Women's Day Celebration: Yale University Slavic Chorus

Tuesday, March 8, 2005 (7:00 pm)

Yale University Slavic Chorus and the youth praise group of the New Life Church celebrate International Women's Day. The Yale Slavic Chorus has a repertoire of songs from many Eastern European countries, including Ukraine. The songs, telling timeless stories of love, work, war, country life, happiness, and sorrow, are lush with the unique Slavic musical trademarks of dissonant harmonies and unusual rhythms. The women transcribe and arrange much of their own music. They accompany themselves with dumbek, a traditional drum used in the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe, and perform in long skirts and embroidered Slavic peasant blouses.

Reception will follow the concert.

Flowers to every lady!
