Cultural Fund Music Series Performance

The Washington Group Cultural Fund in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine present Oleksandr Abayev, violin and Maryna Rogozhyna, piano.

OLEKSANDR ABAYEV, VIOLIN

Native of Ukraine, Mr.Abayev graduated from Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev, Ukraine. 

He is a winner of the Radio Record International Competition Concertino Prague, Vox Populi Special Prize at the First Music Festival of Regina and Vladimir Horowitz, The 7th Pierre Lantier International Competition in Paris, France and The 11th International Chamber Music Competition in Caltanissetta, Italy. 

During his studies at Conservatory Oleksandr has been a member of the Kiev String Quartet, wich performed extensively in the Ukraine and Europe. He has collaborated with such a prominent artists as Earl Carlyss (Julliard String Quartet), Daniel Phillips (Orion String Quartet), Norbert Brainin (Amadeus Quartet), Dmitri Shebalin, Valentin Berlinsky (Borodin Quartet). 

In New York Oleksandr performs as a Concertmaster with Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra and Westchester Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Abayev?s solo and chamber music appearances include recitals at Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, Cooper Union Concert Hall (New York, NY), Seully Hall (Boston, MA) and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts (Scottsdale, AZ). 

As a member of the Forte String Quartet, he was featured by Dennis Rooney in February 2002 issue of The STRAD Magazine. 

Mr. Abayev participated in a live broadcast show hosted by John Schaefer on WNYC 93.9 radio station in May 2002 (New York).

MARYNA ROGOZHYNA, PIANO

Maryna Rogozhyna, piano is native of Uzhgorod, Ukraine. She holds a Doctoral Degree from renowned National Academy of Music of Ukraine where she has been teaching before departure to US in 1998.  

At the age of 8 she won Bach Competition. When she was 15, Mrs. Rogozhyna received the first prize at the National College Student Competition in Ukraine.

In 1991 Maryna won All Union Piano Competition in Samara, Russia.

Mrs. Rogozhyna extensively performs solo and chamber music recitals in Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, Belgium and The Netherlands.

Mrs. Rogozhyna?s concert engagements in the US include recitals at Weill Recital Hall, LeFrak Concert Hall, Donnel Library, Tenri Cultural Institute, Hunter Music Festival and Manhattan Virtuosi Concert Series.
