Bandura Folk Music Performance

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY Presents the BANDURA - a musical celebration of Easter and spring in the tradition of Ukrainian folk music - McNeir Auditorium on the campus (this Friday, Parking is available in University Lot T). 

Sponsored by the Georgetown University Department of Art, Music, and Theater. 

The Ensemble Vyshyvanka of Linden, NJ, consisting of Lidia Oros, Gabriela Oros, Natalie Pavlishyn, Nadia Pavlishyn, Halyna Cekhowska, and Alia Kutsevych, will delight audiences with their Eastern European songs, ritual dances, and costumes. Ukrainians greet the spring with vibrant, emotional songs, known as Vesnianky, From Annunciation until Pentecost, Vesnianky are sung to honor Easter, the most important holiday in Ukraine. 

During Friday's performance, the singers will be accompanied by a traditional Ukrainian instrument called the bandura, a lute-like instrument dating back to the 6th century when men traveled from village to village to pass along folk songs. 

As always, all concerts in the Friday Music Series and FREE and open to all members of the public.
