Ritual in Post-Soviet Ukraine LectureWednesday June 16, 2004 at 12 noonThe American Folklife Center and the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress present: "Ivan Kupalo: Ritual in Post-Soviet Ukraine" a lecture given by Dr. Natalie Kononenko on Wednesday June 16, at 12 noon in Room LJ-119, Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress. Dr. Kononenko is Professor of Slavic Languages, Literatures, and Folklore at the University of Virginia. Her presentation will feature video footage and photos taken during rituals using two contemporary celebrations of Ivan Kupalo in rural Ukraine as case studies, examining them in the context of other rituals, such as weddings.
